The night of San Juan

The night of San Juan

June is a month full of celebrations, and at Denkool Corporate Living, we’ll tell you what to do for the night of San Juan.

One of the most notable festivities is the Feast of San Juan, where bonfires are lit and rituals combining pagan and religious elements are performed. Although this festivity is named after a saint, its origin is closely linked to the summer solstice, marking the arrival of this season in the northern hemisphere. The start of summer can vary between June 20, 21, and 22, but San Juan Day is always celebrated on June 24.

It's important to remember that the night of San Juan does not coincide with the celebration of the saint but is celebrated on the eve, as is the case this year, 2024, where it will fall on Sunday, June 23. A festivity full of history and meaning to enjoy with loved ones or your Koolivers companions!

The Rituals of the Night of San Juan

In addition to jumping bonfires and gathering with friends or Koolivers, the night of San Juan is filled with rituals and legends. Jumping over the bonfires should be done an odd number of times (9 times) to attract good luck. Lighting bonfires on the beaches has a special purpose: bathing in the sea after midnight on June 24 ensures good health throughout the year.

Other rituals include jumping nine waves with your back to the sea to eliminate negative energies and increase fertility, or burying a piece of candle that has burned during the night, to ask the earth for abundance and fertility. However, it's important to know that at Denkool Coliving, we care about the environment, so we ask you not to leave any trash on the beach after the celebrations.

We hope you have a magical and Kool night! Welcome Summer!
